The CL designation for Mercedes-Benz automobiles here in the states started in 1998 with the CL 600. It was the coupe version of the W140 Chassis. Later, in 2000, it was more of a cross between a coupe version of the S class and E class as it shared no common chassis parts from either vehicles. In 2006, MB decided to confuse the American car buying public further with the release of the CLS, a 4 door version of the coupe, using the same chassis as the coupe. It is perhaps MB most unappealing vehicle made to date.
The CL designation is certainly not the cheapest model of car you can purchase here in the states from MB. The person who posted that should do a bit of research before posting such dribble. The cheapest car from MB here in America is the Smart car (a derivative of the A class). They start at $19000. The CL class starts at $87000. Not what I’d call cheap!
