The tires hold the driver you dont feel direct they communicate with the driver you feel connected with the car hits the cars steering systems feel direct they communicate with the pavement bmw steering feeling you dont feel how the tires hold the car hits the pavement bmw steering feels better if the car.
I have owned both and currently driving a BMW. They are two different car in some respects. You mentioned about the stiff steering of the BMW. People who buys BMW want the feel and precise handling that BMWs are know for. Back in 2001, BMW had tried to changed the steering on the 3 series, make it lighter and it turned out to be a big mistake. The BMW purist were not happy with this change and BMW quickly changed it back to the firm steering that we are use to with. BMW has not tried that again. The Mercedes are more of a luxury car than a sporty car. Depending on the model (example Mercedes AMG), they are closer in sporty handling, but overall the BMW is more for driving and built for handling. In doing this, the ride and stiffer handling is part of this design. You also mentioned “get use to the firmer feeling”. This is something that you need to decide. If handling is more important, you will like the firm riding BMW. I have had a BMW and I don’t like softer riding cars. For example, my wife has Lexus LS and it is really nice and quite, but I rather have my BMW, while she rather drive her Lexus. It all depends on you and what’s impoartant to you.
I hope this helps.
